USMLE Live Prep Application Form

USMLE Live + Center Overview - $4,399

To book our USMLE Live + Center Prep in the US, you'll need to complete a Medical Admissions Application Form and send it to kaptest.europe@kaplan.com.

You will choose from one of our Center Prep locations in the US and provide us with a start date. You'll then also pick a Live Prep location and course date (fitting into your 3 month Center Prep dates). If you require a visa you will need us to provide you with an I-20. To receive this, you will need to send us:

Proof of English Language competency
Copies of Bank Statements proving you can survive financially in the US
Proof and details of your Medical Diploma/Degree or Qualifications
Signed letter of Sponsorship if you are being supported by a family member/institution
Proof of Nationality and copies of your passport

Once you have compiled all relevant information, paid for your course in full and sent us your application, we will forward it to Medical Admissions who will process your application. The date you state on your application is binding for your Visa and cannot be changed. Once enrolled you'll be sent a welcome pack for your Center and details of your course.

USMLE Step 2CK Overview

As an International Medical Graduate if you wish to work or train as a Doctor in the US you will be required to take the USMLE Step 2CK to gain ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduate) Certification. To gain this you will be required to take the USMLE Step 1, 2CK and 2CS exams. USMLE Step 2CK results are also used by Residency Program Directors and Coordinators as an initial screening process for applications - good USMLE Step 2CK scores are vital for success!

The USMLE Step 2CK (Clinical Knowledge) is taken by US Medical Students at the end of their 4th year at Medical School, upon completion of their Clinical Sciences. It tests the following areas:

Internal Medicine
Pediatrics
OB/GYN
Surgery
Neurology
Psychiatry
Public Health

The exam is a full day, computer based exam that can be taken internationally. You will be presented with Multiple Choice questions in Clinical Vignette format. This means each question will ask you to use information from a variety of settings, subject areas or disciplines, and make conclusions based on the limited information provided.

The USMLE Step 2 CK is a computer based exam, administered by the Thompson Prometric Center.

Test Day Timing

Total Test Time: 9 hours

Break Time: 45 minutes

Tutorial Time: 15 minutes (optional)

Time per Block: 60 minutes

Question Format

Total Questions: 352 Questions

Number of Blocks: 8 Blocks of questions

Question Type: Multiple Choice questions, 5 or more possible answers & Extended Matching

Question Format: Clinical Vignette questions, using lab results, images or multimedia

Minimum Passing Score: 184 (75)
Percentage of Questions Answered Correctly: 60-70%

There is no negative marking on the USMLE Step 2CK exam, it is one best answer, so if you’re running out of time, or are unsure of the answer – then guess.

184 is the three digit passing score for the USMLE Step 2CK, a two digit passing score (75) is also provided. The two digit score is a percentile, used by some Medical Schools, you may hear reference to a passing score of “75”.

You can only retake the USMLE Step 2CK if you fail – so passing with only 184 means that you can’t retake to improve your score, and high USMLE scores open the way for admission to competitive Residency Programs.

To register for the USMLE Step 2CK exam, you need to first register with the ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates). This body verifies your Medical Diploma and qualifications, ensuring that you have the necessary qualifications to work in the US. You will first need to register with the ECFMG to get an identification number. Once you have done this you can pick a 3 month Eligibility Period in which you plan to take your USMLE Step 2CK exam. Once you have picked this, you will be sent a Scheduling Permit. This will provide you with details for booking your exam.

You will book your USMLE Step 2CK exam with the Thompson Prometric Center. You should ensure that you take your USMLE Step 2CK within your 3 month Eligibility Period, if you don't feel ready to take your exam you should extend or reschedule your Eligibility Period so you do not loose your application fee.
